So basically an Exact Match Domain (EMD) name is website with a URL that is precisely similar to the search query you enter in google or any other search engine. Before I delve into sharing some cool exact match domain name ideas, let me walk you through the benefits of owning one.

Why Exact Match Domain Names?

  1. They are memorable: Just like the examples I have shared above, the greatest benefit of owning an exactStocks appreciate in value match domain name is its ease of remembrance. Just imagine the simplicity with which your website, blog, brand or business will be located if all that a person who’s searching for that services has to do is add a .com at the end of their query? Cool huh?
  2. Appreciation in value: In the event that you plan to sell your domain name in the future, a catchy domain name could fetch you quite a fortune. For example in this article, VPN; an exact-name domain brokerage announced that “Cola.com is priced in the mid-six figures and is available exclusively” for sale on their website. Another example according to an article on Forbes is insurance.com which sold for $35.6million in 2010.
  3. An effective SEO strategy: We’ve all seen these websites whose URLs read like a phrase such as onthemapmarketing .com, thecyberadvocate .com or even businessnamegenerator .com. These may all look like overkill but their owners are onto something. Long-tail keywords are being used more and more by searchers online to get few results of their query to sift through. Just as with the above examples, someone looking for a business name generator for their new company or an advocate in cyberspace is more likely to land on the last two URL in their top results. So do not be afraid to turn your brilliant idea into an exact match domain name. After all, some of the longest EMDs on record have as many as 63 characters!

Healthy Living

Now that we’ve covered some of the benefits of using EMDs, the next best thing would be to share some examples and what better place to start that lifestyle and in particular, healthy living. Let’s face it, you and I are becoming more increasingly conscious of what we eat, how many calories we burn and how to get rid of that fat. I will break this particular section a bit further down into examples based on diets, exercise routines and workouts. Fruit platter dieting

Diets: Under diets, the most trending examples are Mediterranean diet, keto diet, how not to diet, fast/slow metabolism diets, plant-based diet, alkaline diet and so many more. Examples of cool exact match domain names in this category would be completemediterraneandietforbeginners .com/.net/.org, ketodietatoz .com/.net/.org, hownottodietfor .com/.net/.org (with this you can specify age categories or body types e.g. seniors, athletes), fastorslowmetabolismdiets .com/.org/.net, plantbaseddietfor .com/.net/.org

Exercise routines: As our jobs become more hectic and our commutes become longer, our preferences schedules now dictate shorter over longer workout routines, preferably those that can be done from home. Here are some examples in this category. noequipmentworkouts .com/.net/.org, homeworkoutforweightloss .com/.net/.org quickfullbodyworkout .com/.net/.org, slimwaisthomeworkout .com/.net/.org and so many more.

Accommodation

City accommodationAccording to an article published on Finder – an Australian website; the average Australian living in a capital city spent between 20% and 30% of their weekly income on rent during the last quarter of 2019. Business Insider on the other hand reported that Americans about 37% of their take-home pay on accommodation, with Millennials spending up to about 45% of their income according to USA Today.

It is therefore only fair that one would be looking for the most affordable choice of accommodation and what better way to standout as a service provider than to have an exact match domain name. Here are some examples to consider. besthousingguidefor .com/.net/.org (specifics such as seniors, Millennials, bachelors, parents can be added for more specialty), studioapartmentforrentin .com/.net/.org (specifics such as State, City, campus, area codes can be added to make URL even more distinct)

Travel/Vacation

Rafting rapidsWhen our routines start to suck the life out of us, the first thought that comes to mind is usually a chance to get-away, to escape the city and all its noise and traffic to some peace and quiet. Somewhere remote, where the air is clean and the people are friendly. Some people on the other hand would love to go off on a wild adventure where the rides will get you squealing in delight with adrenaline surging or the foaming rapids will gobble up your raft and spit all occupants out further downstream.

Whatever your choice of adventure, it is most likely that you will search for a package that includes your preferred duration, location or budget (luxury, shoestring). Here are a few examples in this regard;

General: groupweekendgetaways .com/.net/.org, bestsafaripackage(s) .com/.net/.org (usually for African vacations), luxurylodgesinafrica .com/.net/.org, budgetvacationinthemediterannean .com/.net/.org toureuropeinamonth .com/.net/.org, hownotto .travel, bargainweekendgetaway .flights

Specific: akkaonedaygrouptours .com/.net/.org (Akka is a town in Morocco and can be replaced by your preferred city/town/site name), backpackacross .com/.net/.org (a specific city/country/continent can be added at the end of this exact match domain), bestpackagefordestinationwedding .com/.net/.org, beststudioapartmentsin .amsterdam, the list is endless! (.travel, .flights and .amsterdam domain names can be bought here)

  7. Hi Mark,

This was a really good post – I had heard the term and kind of knew what it meant, but it was nice to get confirmation!  I actually bought a handful of domains last year that I guess would be considered exact match domains, basically as an investment.  I’m not in a rush to sell them, but when I do I want to reinvest some of the profit and buy more domains.  Wealthy Affiliate sounds like a good place to buy; I’m curious if they have a selling/auction platform also, so I’m going to look into that.  Thanks for the info here!

    • Hi and thanks for your comment Jordan. Wealthy Affiliate does not currently offer a selling/auction platform, understandably so because most of their business is associated with affiliate marketing. Hopefully they get to read your comment and perhaps add it to their list of options… 🙂 It seems like you’ve found your rhythm for buying and holding onto domain names. All the best with your future plans for them.

  12. You were right man!

I knew what EMD were but i just didn’t know that they were called that. I have to concur with what you just gave us and would like to thank you for the insight.

Is it the same way that you can own a domain that is the name of a potentially prominent person and might invest in that domain before they realize that they need one?

is it possible for someone to actually do that and make money of it ?

    Reply
    • Thanks Gyvinek! On the bit about owning domain names of potentially prominent personalities, I’d personally steer clear of that. With prominent personalities come prominent lawyers and depending on if there are copyrights associated with the name, you could stand to lose more than you would have gained.

However, there are so many “fish in the sea” when it comes to domain names so go for those instead of any options that are likely to result in trademark or copyright infringement cases.

  19. Good suggestions and they actually made me thinking of another site to start. Just last week, I registered an EMD via WA Domains and started a new website on the fitness industry. I wish I have read this article before, I could have registered something that’s not so high in competition but still good sounding to the ears. The domain name that I registered is SimpleBodyweightExercises . com , although they are easy to remember and considered an EMD, I am not sure if there are people who would be interested in checking out that domain or site.
